Overview
An isolation transformer transfers energy from the primary to the secondary winding through the magnetic field of the core, with no direct electrical connection between the two circuits. This galvanic separation is the defining feature: the secondary side is decoupled from the primary, so fault currents, harmonics and circulating currents originating downstream do not propagate back into the supply network. DATSAN manufactures oil-immersed isolation transformers from 25 kVA to 5000 kVA for industrial, commercial and infrastructure applications.
Why Galvanic Isolation Matters
Personnel Safety
With no galvanic path to the supply, a single accidental contact on the secondary side does not complete a circuit to earth through the source, significantly reducing electric shock risk.
Equipment Protection
Sensitive electronic loads are shielded from transients and disturbances travelling along the supply, extending equipment life and reducing unplanned downtime.
Network Quality
Harmonic content and circulating currents generated by non-linear loads are largely contained on the secondary side, protecting power quality upstream.
